Detroit. The History of a Hand is play based on the famous mural by Siego Rivera painted in the Detroit Institute of Arts.
The fresco covers four walls of the museum’s courtyard. By entering the courtyard, one steps into the industrial city captured by Riviera in 1933, in its peak moment, when Detroit was not only the most important industrial center, but also an iconic modern city.
Janiczak and Rubin use the themes and motives found in the mural to retell the history of Detroit, the bankrupt city.
