The Leper. A Melodrama

A spectacular staging of the most famous Polish melodrama, with historical costumes and stunning musical score.

The fabulous realities of the aristocratic society described by Helena Mniszkówna become a pretext for weaving an intricate web of love intrigues, disappointed hopes and fleeting moments of fulfilment - all in the atmosphere of the turn of a certain era and historical epoch. The authors of the script toy with the form of a melodrama by endowing the characters with new motivations and entanglements.

Luckily, Faruga doesn’t go too far. The final scene with Waldemar weeping over Stefcia’s dead body is a tribute to Mniszkówna. Instead of a deconstruction, we have an interesting play with form and a truly good performance. It has great acting (Magda Łaska deserves a special praise) as well as excellent music. The enormous mirror hung at the back of the stage may be a simple symbol of a looking glass where the audience can see their own reflection. – Szymon Spichalski, Teatr dla Was

The performance is for spectators over the age of 18.
