Bydgoszcz Stories

Each of the performances constitutes an opportunity for the actors of the Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz to tackle different themes and mysteries of the city’s history.

Where did the Archer come from? What did Casimir the Great do for the city? What famous singer comes from Bydgoszcz? Bydgoszcz Stories is a series of performances that aim to uncover the city’s multidimensional identity.

Not only the best text by Artur Pałyga I have ever encountered at a theatre, but also the most exquisitely composed stories about the events from Bydgoszcz’s past that have ever been staged in the city; overflowing with poetry and intelligent humour. Anita Nowak, Wieczna Bydgoszcz. Energia uwalniana z archiwum, Teatr dla Was

Fragments of texts by Krzysztof Gruse and Sebastian Rerak from the book „Chłepcąc Ciekły Hel-Historia Yassu” as well as the song „Brda” by Krzysztofa Gruse have been used in the plays.

Did you know that yass could be called – the music from the Brain?

That Bydgoszcz is like a large apartment?
That Brda, Brda, Brda?
That the place looked like a hangar?
That Kazik was afraid.
And Mazzol prayed with music.

What kind of energy does the Brain produce?

What is it with the medium theory?
Who is going to rise from their graves?
What’s with Tymon?

What would Bydgoszcz be without the Brain?

What would the Brain be without Bydgoszcz?
Something else.

Some of these questions will be answered during the performances. The Bydgoszcz Stories also try to face the title problem of the death of the Brain. Visitors who travel to Bydgoszcz keep asking where the famous Brain is - is the place still alive, or is the legend the only thing that remains?
