The Wall

"The Wall" is not a calendar page, a history lesson, or even another celebration of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The performance was (not) created on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"The Wall" is not a calendar page, a history lesson, or even another celebration of the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is a story that takes place against the background of a concrete structure that one day divided part of the world in two. What is life like around the wall? What kind of energy does the wall release in people? How does it affect the fate of individuals and what reactions does it trigger in them?  Have traces of the split disappeared, and can the scar on the wall be considered as proof of past gone by?  And finally: what provokes people who risk their lives to get to the other side?

“The Wall" directed by Justyna Sobczyk is an attempt to reflect on the processes found in private stories of people who directly or indirectly touched the Berlin Wall. It is also a picture showing testimonies of courage and bravado, as well as doubts and hopelessness, which alternately accompanied the protagonists of this story. The wall in this story will turn into a stage for various behaviours, it will take on the role of a performer influencing the fate of an individual, and finally it will become a silent background for the life of real people.
